Abies pinsapo - Spanish Firs
The Spanish Fir is native to the mountains of southern Spain and northern Morocco. It has a pyramidal to conical shape and grows at a rate of 12” a year. At 10 years it will be 15’H × 7’W and 50’-75’H × 15’-30’ at maturity. It has blue-green needles arranged radially around the branches, with white, waxy stripes along the top and bottom surfaces. The seed cones are greenish-pink when young and mature to a brown or purple color, disintegrating after releasing the seeds. This tree grows in sun to partial shade in slightly acidic, well-draining soil with medium moisture. It is best in USDA hardiness zones 6 to 8.
