Red, Purple, & Burgundy Maples
Japanese maples with deep, red or purple leaves are desirable landscape trees for their unique color that contrasts wonderfully with almost every other color. One of the most well-known upright-growing varieties of Japanese maple with red color is Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’. A favorite, mounding, laceleaf variety is Acer palmatum ‘Tamukeyama’. However, in recent years, dozens of other varieties have become available, many of which are slow-growing or superior in some way. On each product page, a full description as well as growth information is provided. Find the perfect red-colored maple for your garden by using the search filters on the left to meet your needs.
FINDING THE RIGHT MAPLE
With the vast assortment of available varieties, finding the right selection can be overwhelming! If you are looking for an upright branching tree form, one of our favorites is Acer palmatum ‘Twombly’s Red Sentinel’ with its somewhat columnar growth habit. For varieties with a lower-growing habit, Acer palmatum ‘Rhode Island Red’ and Acer palmatum ‘Red Dragon’ are two excellent options to consider.
LANDSCAPE USES
The intense burgundy color of these maples ties together more neutral blue and green tones in the landscape. A brilliant golden maple also looks particularly stunning next to a red-leaved maple!
If you are looking for a red maple that is different from what is typically available, look no further. You will not be disappointed!
