Coral in spring, burgundy or green through summer, then a fall of scarlet, orange, and gold.
A sculpture in winter
Layered branching and coral bark hold the garden together long after the leaves drop.
A tree that fits
Dwarfs and laceleafs for containers and tight beds, uprights for a true focal point.
Slow, long-lived, easy
Set it in the right spot and a maple is close to maintenance-free for decades.
The collection
Hundreds of cultivars. Every one of them tempting.
Palmatums and dissectums, dwarfs and bonsai, vine maples and full moons. Reds, greens, variegates, and oranges. A small taste of what’s growing in the fields right now.

Good to know
Japanese maple questions, answered.
Which maple has the best fall color?
Most Japanese maples color beautifully, but for sheer fall fire look at reds and oranges like ‘Osakazuki’, ‘Fireglow’, and the laceleaf ‘Orangeola’. Greens such as ‘Sango kaku’ and ‘Aconitifolium’ turn brilliant gold and crimson too. Good light brings out the strongest color.
Will a Japanese maple survive my winter?
Most are hardy in USDA Zones 5–9, and we carry cold-hardy options down to Zone 5. Every plant lists its zone on its page, so match it to yours, and if you’re not sure of your zone, enter your ZIP on any product page.
Sun or shade?
Most are happiest in morning sun with afternoon shade, or bright dappled shade. Many greens take more sun, and reds tend to color best with good light. In hot-summer climates, afternoon shade keeps the foliage from scorching.
How big will it get, and can I keep one small?
Anywhere from 3–4 ft dwarfs and laceleafs for containers up to 20+ ft uprights. Dwarfs and weeping types naturally stay compact, and we list the mature size on every plant.
Can you really ship a maple safely?
Yes, we do it across the country every week. Maples ship in their pots, hand-packed to travel, and arrive rooted and ready to plant. It’s all backed by our 45-Day Growing Guarantee.
Are they hard to care for?
Not at all. Once established, Japanese maples are slow-growing, long-lived, and low-maintenance. Give them well-drained soil, water through the first couple of summers, and avoid soggy spots.
