This variety of Japanese Maple is not the original cultivar known as ‘Chitose yama’. This variety has green foliage while the original has red. The name refers to the mountains on the island of Hokkaido in Japan. The bright green color has a remarkable color change throughout the season, from fuzzy white in spring to crimson red in fall!
