Picea abies - Norway Spruces

Norway Spruce is native to the mountains of northern and central Europe, and is a familiar sight in the United States. It is a tall, pyramidal tree with dark green foliage. In the wild it can grow 80’-100’H × 25’-40’W. In cultivation, it can grow to 20’-25’H × 12’-15’W in 10 years and 40’-60’H × 25’-30’W at maturity. Its distinctive secondary branchlets hang down from the primary branches along with 9” long brown seed cones. Norway Spruce does best in full sun, but can tolerate light shade. It prefers light, moist, acidic soil that is well draining, and is hardy from USDA zones 3 to 8.
